Product Management Explained: Andy Allison, VP of Product

Hi there, for those of you who don’t know me, I am Andy Allison VP of Product and I am responsible for the product management function here at EdgePetrol.

First, I want to share a diagram, because everyone loves a diagram!


Product management is the ‘glue’ between the engineering teams, sales teams and all of our customers. I work out how we can make EdgePetrol better for our users, and then work with our engineering and design teams to make it happen.

Key to my role is customer research and feedback. Without speaking to customers and receiving feedback or new ideas, none of the above would be possible.

A Product Manager cannot justify new features, or bug fixes, without first understanding the customer's needs or problems. A product manager cannot plan and verify new features, or bug fixes, without an understanding of the level of impact they have on the customers/users. I think you understand the point I am trying to make, open communication with customers and receiving customer feedback is vital to the field of product management and ensures we develop our product(s) with customers at the heart of what we do.

Here at EdgePetrol we work in a very agile way, meaning that we listen to our customers, we analyse the data and act - fast! When we hear you are experiencing issues with the platform or with the data we act on it immediately and assign engineers to the problem. When we receive your feedback about new features, or ideas you have for future features, we start to act on it. First we seek to understand the key needs and carry out further research with other users before putting a plan together of how we can provide an effective solution to these needs.

There are a number of ways you can provide feedback to us and I want to highlight some of these below:

Live Product Chat

Hopefully you’ve noticed in the bottom right of your screen when you are logged into the EdgePetrol application there is a speech bubble icon. This is where you can access the live chat that comes straight to the customer success and product teams. You can use this area to ask any questions, let us know of any issues you are facing, update us on any changes to your sites or provide us with some feedback.

Open Product Roadmap
We are very open and transparent at EdgePetrol so we think it is important you know what is likely to be coming to your future product. This is why we have created an open product
roadmap for you to see where our product development is at and have your say on your product.


Support

You can access the product roadmap directly in the product by clicking on the 3 dots in the bottom left of your screen and clicking ‘What’s coming’. It is incredibly powerful for us to hear first-hand what you think of the ideas on the roadmap and what’s most important to you.
